'n Dag is die relatiewe eenheid van tyd wat die periode beskryf wat dit 'n planeet neem om om sy eie as te draai. Op aarde word die omwentelingtyd in 24 ure verdeel.


Volgens die Gregoriaanse kalender word elke 365 dae as 'n jaar getel. Elke vier jaar word daar een dag bygetel om voorsiening te maak vir die feit dat die omgang om die son nie presies in volledige dae plaasvind nie. Só 'n jaar word dan 'n skrikkeljaar genoem. Die Juliaanse kalender het een keer in die vier jaar 'n skrikkeljaar, en duur dus gemiddeld 365,26 dae (365d, 6h). Die Gregoriaanse kalender het minder skrikkeldae en duur gemiddeld 365,2425 dae (365d 5h 49 m 12s).
