Der bulgarische Zentralstaat besteht seit 1999 aus 28 Verwaltungsbezirken (Oblaste). Der Verwalter jedes Verwaltungsbezirks wird von der Regierung in der Regel für eine Zeitspanne von 4 Jahren eingesetzt. Die Oblaste in Bulgarien sind folgende:

Frühere Oblaste |


Von 1959 bis 1987 war Bulgarien in dieselben geographischen Verwaltungseinheiten unterteilt – das waren aber Okruge.


Von 1987 bis 1999 waren je drei bis vier Okruge zu Oblasten als übergeordnete Verwaltungseinheit zusammengefasst worden:


  • Burgas (Burgas, Sliwen, Jambol)

  • Chaskowo (Kardschali, Stara Sagora, Chaskowo)

  • Lowetsch (Gabrowo, Lowetsch, Plewen, Weliki Tarnowo)

  • Plowdiw (Pasardschik, Plowdiw, Smoljan)

  • Rasgrad-Russe (Rasgrad, Russe, Silistra, Targowischte)

  • Sofia (Stadt)

  • Sofia-Region (Blagoewgrad, Kjustendil, Pernik, Sofia-Region)

  • Warna (Warna, Dlobritsch, Schumen)

  • Montana (Widin, Wraza, Montana)
