Calderonebreen er den sørlegaste breen i Europa, her frå juli 2007. Breen smeltar raskt og vil truleg forsvinne innan 10-15 år.


Calderonebreen (italiensk Ghiacciaio del Calderone) er ein isbre i Gran Sasso d’Italia i Abruzzo i Italia, like nedanfor Corno Grande, den høgaste toppen i Apenninane.


Då Corral de la Veleta-breen (37° N) i Sierra Nevada i Spania forsvann i 1913 vart «Il Calderone» den sørlegaste isbreen i Europa (42°28′N 13°33′EKoordinatar: 42°28′N 13°33′E). I dag trekk breen seg tilbake og om smelteprossessen held fram som i dag vil breen forsvinne heilt innan 10-15 år.


I 1794 vart volumet til Calderonebreen estimert til over 4 millionar kubikkmeter, i 1916 hadde volumet minka til 3,3 millionar kubikkmeter og i 1990 til 360 931 kubikkmeter. I 1998 varsla italienske breforskarar at Caldronebreen kom til å forsvinne heilt innan nokre tiår.[1]
