I work as a team lead for a small team of consultants at a customer. Sometimes consultants apply at the customer and also change to the customer, which is sad for us, but business as usual. Now my problem is that very often me or management hear rumors/indications from the customer side that currently somebody is applying - sometimes very specific rumors/indications that me or the management actually know who is applying - sometimes with the indications that this is not desired from the customer side.
How should we handle the situation (besides in my case me being careful, should I ever try to apply at the customer)?
Any responsibility (not necessarily legal) which we have against the team?
Is this usual?
What could be the fallout if people from the team figure out that they can not apply at the customer and be sure that it stays confidential?
(None of the past switches have been ever contested legally - there is a fee which the customer agreed to pay for each successful case)

Is there anything in the contract that prevents them from applying and / or accepting a job offer from the client/customer? If so, then it's illegal and question is better suited for Law.
