Hu, born in 1942, had been China's president since March 2003. Hu Jintao was reelected chairman of the Central Military Commission of China at the annual session.
Xi Jinping was elected vice-president of China at the ongoing session of the 11th National People's Congress Saturday morning.
Xi, born in 1953, is one of the nine members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
