Ffurf o ryfela ar y tir yw rhyfela mewn ffosydd.[1] Mae lluoedd gwrthwynebol yn brwydro tra eu bônt wedi'u hymsefydlu mewn systemau o ffosydd a gladdir ar naill ochr y maes brwydro. Mae llu milwrol yn troi at ryfela mewn ffosydd pan bo grym tanio'r gelyn yn ei orfodi i dorri ffosydd, i aberthu'i fudoledd er mwyn ennill amddiffyniad.[2] Weithiau dim ond un ochr sy'n mabwysiadu ffosydd, gan amlaf llu sydd ag anfantais confensiynol, megis brwydrwyr herwfilwrol (gerila).


Yr achos fwyaf ac amlycaf o ryfela mewn ffosydd oedd ffosydd Ffrynt y Gorllewin yn ystod y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf.[3]


Defnyddiwyd rhyfela mewn ffosydd hefyd gan y Japaneaid yn yr Ail Ryfel Byd, Coreaid y Gogledd a'r Tsieineaid yn Rhyfel Corea, y Việt Minh ym Mrwydr Điện Biên Phủ yn ystod Rhyfel Indo-Tsieina, a naill ochr yn Rhyfel Iran ac Irac.[2]
