Kaniv Reservoir. (Map: Kaniv Reservoir.) A water reservoir created in 1972 by the dams of the Kaniv Hydroelectric Station on the Dnipro River. It is 162 km long and up to 5 km wide and has a surface area of 675 sq km, a volume of 2.6 cu km, and an average depth of 5.5 m. Together with the Kakhovka Reservoir, the Dnipro Reservoir, the Kamianske Reservoir, the Kremenchuk Reservoir, and the Kyiv Reservoir it has created a deep-water route on the Dnipro, allowing sea ships to sail upstream as far as the Prypiat River.
